Certified Recovery Peer Specialist Training Supervisors are responsible for:
- Collaborating with correctional facility staff, mental health professionals, substance use treatment program professionals, and community partners to design and deliver recovery-oriented training programs.
- Developing curriculum modules that address the unique challenges faced by incarcerated individuals. Ensuring alignment with the Florida Certification Board’s (FCB) standards for Certified Recovery Peer Specialists (CRPS).
- Conducting training sessions for CRPS Training Instructors working within correctional settings. Covering topics such as recovery principles, trauma-informed care, substance use disorders, and mental health conditions.
- Fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment. Providing ongoing supervision and mentorship to peer specialists.
- Assisting in identifying and addressing any barriers to effective peer support. Encouraging professional growth and skill development.
- Establishing partnerships with other correctional facilities, community organizations, and reentry programs. Participating in interagency meetings to enhance collaboration and share best practices.
- Supervising CRPS Training Instructors by monitoring and observing training sessions to ensure fidelity with program requirements.
- Monitoring program outcomes and assessing the impact of peer support interventions. Maintaining accurate records related to training activities.
- Ensuring adherence to FCB guidelines and ethical standards.
- Advocating for integration of peer support services and promoting recovery-oriented practices within the correctional environment.
- Raising awareness about the value of peer support in reducing recidivism and improving overall outcomes.
Job Requirements:
Education / experience / certifications / licensure must meet contractual requirements.
- Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Note: This requirement may be waived for individuals who hold a Certified Recovery Peer Specialist (CRPS) credential, as certification standards already include this educational prerequisite.
- Certification as a Certified Recovery Peer Specialist (CRPS) by the Florida Certification Board or eligible to obtain Peer Specialist certification, preferred. Or a bachelor’s degree and two (2) years’ experience in education, substance use disorder, mental health, criminal justice or related field.
- Lived experience as an adult in recovery and have been actively maintaining a wellness and recovery lifestyle from a mental health and/or substance use condition for at least two years, preferred (required if CRPS).
- Proven knowledge of training methods and techniques and experience as a teacher, training instructor, or similar role with at least one (1) year of supervisory experience.
- Valid local driver’s license, insurance, and good driving record.
- Ability to pass a Level 2 background check in the state of Florida.

- Ability to walk and move about the facilities for up to two hours at a time, to monitor and interact with peers.
- Ability to record, proofread and check documents and files for accuracy, to prepare and analyze data and figures, transcribe, read.
- Ability to communicate with others and speak to groups or individuals in order to gather and present information.
- Ability to use a keyboard and video display terminal to receive, retrieve, and/or audit information and data.
- Ability to respond to telephones, and to hear and detect alarms and unusual noises.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely and remain alert to traffic conditions and to identify and comply with traffic signals and signs.
