Job Description

Summary:

We are looking for an experienced and results-driven Controller to join our team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in overseeing and managing the financial operations of the company. This role will report directly to the President of the company and oversee the accounting team. The Controller will be responsible for ensuring accuracy, integrity, and compliance with our financial data. This position will be responsible for producing financial reports, managing the accuracy of the accounting system, and ensuring reported results comply with general accounting principles and standards. The Controller should be familiar with the handling of financial reporting for multiple entities and must be able to provide strategic financial guidance and lead initiatives to enhance our financial performance.

Responsibilities:

• Manage the accounting department operations, including processes, billing, accounts payables, accounts receivables, and GL analysis.

• Mentor the overseas accounting team, ensuring completion and alignment with daily deliverables.

• Lead and manage the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring adherence to tight deadlines and financial reporting requirements.

• Prepare and review accurate and timely financial statements for each individual location while ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations.

• Maintain and strengthen banking relationships, ensuring efficient cash management and compliance with covenants.

• Provide oversight into property management activities, including lease administration, rent schedules, and related reporting.

• Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and ensure proper account reconciliations and accuracy of financial data.

• Conduct detailed financial analysis and provide valuable insights to support decision-making by the executive team.

• Manage treasury functions, including cash flow, prepare cash forecasts, and optimize working capital to support all entity operations.

• Monitor and analyze operating expenses, including labor costs, food and beverage costs, utilities, repairs, supplies and overall preferabilities for each location.

• Establish and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard assets and maintain financial integrity.

• Collaborate with management to develop annual budgets and financial forecasts.

• Coordinate and manage external audits, ensuring timely and accurate completion.

• Oversee tax compliance and planning and strategically minimize tax liabilities.

• Continuously assess accounting processes and systems, recommending and implementing improvements for greater efficiency and accuracy.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field (MBA/CPA preferred).
  • Eight-plus years of relevant experience in finance and leadership roles.
  • Hands-on experience using Sage accounting software is required for this role.
  • Proven record as a Controller or in a senior finance leadership role, preferably in the retail or restaurant industry.
  • Deep understanding of financial accounting principles, financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, tax laws, and financial reporting standards.
  • Strong strategic mindset with the ability to translate financial insights into actionable business recommendations.
  • Experience being an effective leader who can direct the financial operations of a company.
  • Ability to adapt to innovative technologies, regulations, and new business models.
  • Must have experience solving complex issues, and financial problems and making decisions that have a significant impact on our company’s performance.
  • In-depth knowledge of financial regulations, compliance, and risk management.
  • Exceptional communication and people skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to lead and develop a high-performing finance team.
