Job Description

We are looking for a Data Engineer (7+ years of experience) with strong expertise in FHIR, Python, SQL, and Power BI, preferably from a healthcare data background. The role involves building scalable ETL pipelines to migrate complex FHIR data structures into SQL (Postgres) for analytics and reporting.

Responsibilities: -

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines to extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from FHIR APIs into SQL databases.
• Work closely with stakeholders to understand data requirements and ensure data quality and integrity.
• Develop analytics solutions and dashboards using Power BI to support business insights.
• Optimize data workflows and troubleshoot data-related issues.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including data scientists, analysts, and business users. .
• Drive project and technology goals in compliance with organizational objectives.

Educational Qualifications: -

• Engineering Degree BE/ME/BTech/MTech/BSc/MSc.
• Technical certification in multiple technologies is desirable.

Skills: -

Mandatory skills

• Strong hands-on experience with FHIR standards and data structures.
• Proficiency in Python for data engineering tasks.
• Expertise in SQL and data analytics.
• Experience with Power BI for data visualization and reporting.
• Solid understanding of ETL processes and data pipeline architecture.
• FHIR -> SQL Data migration

1. Since standard commercial reporting tools do not support querying from FHIR, we are looking to replicate our FHIR data into a SQL (Postgres) data structure
2. There are many complexities in this transition including: Handling repeating (and nested repeating) structures in FHIR (e.g., do some specific rows get promoted to the top of the structure? Do you create child tables for these? Do you keep the JSON structure in a field in the target schema?), Multiple coding on the same concept, Denormalization for performance reasons
3. The technical approach is to use Python to transform the data with reusable script segments for different FHIR data types
4. The logical work is to make the choices above informed partly by reporting priorities above

• Experience in healthcare data systems or interoperability standards.

Good to have skills: -

• Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP) is a plus.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills
