Description We have an exciting opportunity for an Embryology Lab Assistant. Under supervision of the Lab Supervisor or Director, and direction of Embryologists, the Embryology Lab Assistant is responsible for providing daily administrative support and assistance with high quality IVF laboratory medical procedures. The Embryology Lab Assistant consults with other staff groups/members regarding the administration, maintenance and daily running of the laboratory. The Embryology Lab Assistant works in a collaborative relationship with the Laboratory Director and/or Supervisor and other team members, as well as with other clinical department employees and physicians.
The Embryology Lab Assistant is an entry-level position and will require the employee to become fully trained and proficient in all basic IVF laboratory administrative processes and assistant procedures. The Embryology Lab Assistant position is an administrative role with an additional supportive role for laboratory preparations and procedures (lab QC, dish prep, witnessing) that does not require actual gamete/embryo manipulation.
Essential Responsibilities - Provide daily support to the IVF Laboratory and the Embryologists as needed to meet time sensitive workflow.
- Conducts sperm preparation for ICSI and for conventional insemination (as applicable).
- Provide witnessing for all required laboratory procedural steps.
- Conduct daily quality control procedures.
- Prepare laboratory paperwork and culture dish labels for upcoming patient cycles.
- Accurately maintain logs and clinical data
- Enter specific clinical data into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
- Transfer out and receive sperm, eggs, and embryos according to laboratory procedures.
- Maintain Quality Control records, electronic and written QC records.
- Move and change supply tanks (compressed gas and liquid nitrogen)
- Maintain LN2 Dewar and tank levels according to laboratory policies.
- Keep the laboratory stocked and fully supplied through inventory tracking and ordering.
- Maintain the supply of all lab paperwork and cycle documents.
- Receive visitors, answer phone calls, and triage appropriately.
- Send semen analysis reports to outside physicians and clinics daily.
- Order compressed gasses and liquid nitrogen to maintain an adequate supply.
- Keep an accurate inventory and supply of compressed gasses, and liquid nitrogen.
- Scan all lab charts into the EMR system.
- Enter Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) patient results into each individual patient’s cryopreservation record within the EMR.
- Generate all IVF cycle patient reports in the EMR system, including but not limited to fertilization reports, embryo transfer reports and Day 3 to Day 7 embryo grading reports.
- Ensure the lab is organized and clean at all times.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education And/or Experience - Associate degree or equivalent required in Life Science or Biological Science; Bachelor’s of Science degree preferred.
- Two years of related clerical/administrative job experience strongly preferred.
- Experience working in a laboratory setting preferred.
