Hardware Technician Level 1
Location: Columbia, MD
Clearance Required: None
Compensation Range: $55,000 – $72,000

Position Overview

We are seeking a Hardware Technician Level 1 (IT Field Support Specialist) to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting, troubleshooting, and maintaining computer systems, peripherals, and related equipment across multiple sites. This is a hands-on position that involves site surveys, installations, and providing end-user training and support.

This position requires a proactive problem-solver with strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while supporting mission-critical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct site surveys to assess and document current site configurations and user requirements.

  • Analyze existing requirements and prepare specifications for hardware acquisitions.

  • Develop and manage hardware installation schedules.

  • Document configuration changes with accurate site drawings.

  • Install, configure, and maintain computer workstations, printers, peripherals, and teleconferencing equipment, including associated cabling.

  • Troubleshoot, repair, and test hardware, software, and communication systems.

  • Provide training to site personnel on proper hardware usage.

  • Maintain government and/or vendor-manufactured fiber optic, Ethernet cables, and telephone systems.

  • Provide remote and on-site technical support to end users.

Requirements

  • Education/Experience:

    • High School diploma/GED and 0–2 years of relevant experience with 8570 Certification (Security+ preferred).

    • An AA or BS in a technical field may substitute for years of experience.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Strong ability to install, repair, and troubleshoot computer hardware and peripherals.

    • Proficient in installing Windows OS, applications, antivirus software, and patches.

    • Familiarity with Active Directory security and policies.

    • Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).

    • Ability to interpret technical manuals and schematics.

    • Skilled at remote user support and issue resolution.

  • Other Requirements:

    • Must hold a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

    • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and operate a company vehicle.

    • Willingness to perform physical tasks such as lifting, kneeling, crawling, and working in tight spaces.

    • Availability to work an 8-hour shift between 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM , as scheduled by management.

Additional Information

  • New hires will complete a 2-week training program .

  • This position involves significant hands-on technical work and occasional travel to different sites.
