Perioperative Nurse Manager

Location: San Jose, CA

Salary Range: $230,000 – $260,000 annually Additional Compensation: 10% annual bonus target + Sign-on bonus + Paid Relocation + Full Benefits

Are you a seasoned nursing leader with a passion for perioperative care and a knack for driving operational excellence? We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Perioperative Nurse Manager to lead our surgical services team in San Jose, CA. In this critical role, you will be instrumental in implementing best practice models, optimizing patient care delivery, and fostering a collaborative environment across multiple locations.

About the Role:

As the Perioperative Nurse Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our perioperative units, ensuring the highest standards of patient safety, quality care, and operational efficiency. You will lead and develop a dedicated team of nursing professionals, manage resources, and collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers to achieve exceptional patient outcomes. This role requires a strong leader who can navigate a fast-paced, 24/7 operational environment while continuously seeking opportunities for improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Development:
    • Create and advocate for developmental opportunities for staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team.
    • Provide open feedback, coaching, and set clear performance expectations to drive continuous improvement.
    • Participate in talent acquisition, training, and succession planning to build a strong and resilient workforce.
    • Stay current with organizational changes, industry trends, and best practices, and integrate them into daily operations.
    • Foster open dialogue, engage, motivate, and promote collaboration within and across teams to meet business objectives.
    • Delegate tasks and decisions appropriately, providing necessary support and guidance.
  • Operational Management:
    • Translate business plans into actionable tactical items for designated units or teams.
    • Oversee work assignments, identify improvement opportunities, and ensure adherence to all policies and procedures.
    • Partner with key stakeholders to ensure services meet requirements and align with departmental strategies.
    • Manage and optimize the use of equipment, supplies, and medications, ensuring a safe environment for patients and employees.
    • Proactively monitor resource needs across clinical areas to ensure appropriate assignment and utilization.
    • Manage hospital administrative functions, including financial commitments, budget development and control, and human resources (recruitment, performance management, labor relations).
    • Ensure continuous survey readiness and compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., The Joint Commission, federal, state, and local requirements).
  • Patient Care & Quality:
    • Lead the implementation of patient care delivery systems and practice standards across several locations.
    • Facilitate collaboration with physicians and other healthcare team members to achieve optimal and safe patient care.
    • Delegate tasks related to the investigation and resolution of patient/family/member concerns.
    • Maintain clinical expertise, provide clinical supervision, and ensure staff competency and licensing.
    • Drive continuous improvement in the quality and safety of clinical practices, services, and operations for patients and staff.
    • Design and implement systems, processes, and methods to evaluate and improve patient care within the assigned department and across the continuum of care.
    • Perform clinical duties as required.
  • Strategic Initiatives:
    • Lead the implementation of best practice models and strategic projects focused on issue remediation, improved quality, service, and efficiency.
    • Develop and manage a structured approach for identifying root causes and implementing solutions to enhance operational processes and address quality and safety issues.
    • Collaborate with senior leadership on strategic planning to achieve integrated services across the continuum of care.
    • Ensure performance metrics are aligned with organizational strategic initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Five (5) years of experience in patient care delivery.
  • Minimum Four (4) years of experience in a leadership role (with or without direct reports).
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) AND minimum five (5) years of experience in business operations, clinical healthcare, or a directly related field.
  • A few years of Operating Room (OR) experience is required.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) License (California) required upon hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire.
